HBO's The Last of Us season 3 has announced new cast members, including Laura Bailey and Ian Alexander, who are reprising their roles from the video game series in different capacities. The additions were revealed as part of The Last of Us Day, an annual celebration observed on September 26th, commemorating the in-universe date of the Cordyceps outbreak.
Laura Bailey, known for voicing Abby in The Last of Us Part 2, will portray Elizabeth, described as a leader within the Seraphite faction. Ian Alexander, who originated the role of Lev in the game, will play Paco, part of a duo who call themselves the Heroes of the Highway. Actor John Goodman has also been cast as Joey, the other half of this pair.
While the series has not consistently cast game actors in their original roles, it has previously featured actors from the games in new characters. For instance, Troy Baker, the original Joel voice actor, has appeared in a different role in the show. Bailey herself had a minor appearance in the first season's finale as a nurse involved in Ellie's operation. The upcoming season will feature these new characters, though the number of episodes for Goodman, Bailey, and Alexander remains unconfirmed.
Season 3 of The Last of Us is slated for release on HBO in 2027. Naughty Dog is reportedly saving its own The Last of Us Day announcements for September 28th. The studio's next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, does not yet have a release window.
