Production for the second season of Apple TV+'s critically acclaimed comedy horror series, Widow's Bay, may commence sooner than anticipated. Actor Stephen Root, who portrays the devoted supernatural believer Wyck Crawford, indicated that the show's creative team is aiming for an earlier start to filming.
"We started in late May last year. We're hoping to start a lot sooner than that so we can get it out sooner," Root stated in a recent interview with Polygon. He further elaborated that the show's creator and showrunner, Katie Dippold, is actively working to facilitate this accelerated timeline. The writer's room reportedly convened approximately two weeks prior to Root's interview, with the expectation of having near-complete scripts by December.
This potential for an earlier release is particularly welcome given the significant cliffhanger that concluded Widow's Bay's first season. The penultimate episode revealed the origins of the island's curse, tracing back to a pact made by town founder Richard Warren with a demon centuries prior. The curse's termination hinges on the extinction of the Warren bloodline. In a surprising twist, it was revealed that Tom's deceased wife was the last member of the direct Warren line, making his teenage son, Evan, the final descendant and thus, the key to breaking the curse, albeit through his potential demise.
Widow's Bay is currently available for streaming on Apple TV+.
