The release of James Bond game 007 First Light on Nintendo Switch 2 has been postponed to March 2027. Originally slated for a simultaneous release across all platforms in May, the Switch 2 version faced an initial delay to fall before this latest postponement.

IO Interactive announced the delay in a statement, explaining that the additional time is necessary to "ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect" and to "ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect." The studio will provide an exact release date closer to the new launch window. The game's demo, which received positive feedback at Gamescom, will also be available at Tokyo Game Show.

The reasons for the repeated delays to the Switch 2 version remain unclear. Speculation exists regarding potential technical challenges, strategic timing for the console's user base, or concerns about proximity to major releases like Grand Theft Auto 6. IO Interactive has not provided specific details on these possibilities.

This delay comes as IO Interactive also released an update for 007 First Light on PC, introducing path tracing and DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction for improved lighting and reflections. Future content for the game includes a story DLC focusing on Bawama, additional TacSim challenges, a new gadget, New Game+, and a photo mode.

Despite the Switch 2 delay, 007 First Light has sold 4 million copies in its first three months. However, IO Interactive has faced internal challenges, including layoffs following Microsoft's withdrawal of funding for a separate project. Uncertainty also surrounds the planned sequels to 007 First Light following Amazon's acquisition of the James Bond license.
