IO Interactive has released a free downloadable content pack for 007: First Light, titled 'Extended Operations,' which adds new content including a mission where players can finally drive the Aston Martin Valhalla. While the base game featured the car prominently, its in-game use was limited to a short turret sequence, a point of disappointment for players who anticipated more driving gameplay.
The new 'Valhalla Protocol' mission allows players to drive the armed sports car through the mountains of Slovakia, engaging in combat against drones and other vehicles. This mission is part of the game's TacSim mode, which offers a simulation-like experience with a high budget.
Beyond the Valhalla mission, 'Extended Operations' introduces another TacSim Operation called 'Jungle Heist.' This mission involves stealing documents from a safe in a villa, with the hotel environment being randomized for replayability. The DLC also includes a Photo Mode, a New Game+ option that allows players to replay the campaign with different suits and adjustable gadget loadouts, and a new '00' difficulty level unlocked after completing the game. A minor, but reportedly appreciated, addition is the ability to pet a bulldog in-game.
007: First Light was a commercial success for IO Interactive, selling 1.5 million copies within its first 24 hours and becoming the studio's fastest-selling title. While there has been speculation about a potential sequel and Amazon's interest in acquiring IO Interactive, no official confirmation of a follow-up game has been made.
