007 First Light Switch 2 Release Date Set for March 2027

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light will launch on March 18, 2027, IO Interactive announced. The game was originally slated for release this summer but suffered an unspecified delay roughly a month ago. IO Interactive stated that the extended development time is necessary to ensure the quality players expect from the title.

"The development team will use the coming months to continue refining the game's optimisation and performance on Nintendo Switch 2, ensuring it meets the standard players expect at launch," the studio said in a press release. The company noted that hands-on builds of the game have been demonstrated at gamescom and Tokyo Game Show, receiving positive player feedback.

This delay mirrors challenges faced by other developers, such as Capcom with Monster Hunter Wilds, in optimizing games for the Switch 2 hardware. IO Interactive is prioritizing performance and polish for the Bond adventure.

The new release date coincides with the opening of pre-orders for a Deluxe Edition, which will include bonus in-game outfits and gadgets. This follows the recent release of significant free downloadable content for 007 First Light, which added features such as New Game Plus, a harder difficulty setting, a photo mode, and additional TacSim challenge missions. It is presumed these additions will be included in the Switch 2 version.

007 First Light has been a critical and commercial success since its 2026 launch. Praised for its cinematic single-player campaign, the game has sold over 4 million copies. The upcoming Switch 2 release is expected to further boost its sales.

IO Interactive is also developing a fantasy RPG, codenamed Project Fantasy. While the game faced setbacks including publisher Xbox withdrawing support and subsequent studio closures and layoffs, IO Interactive has since regained full ownership and vowed to continue its development independently.

Additionally, the studio continues to support Hitman World of Assassination, which recently featured rapper Snoop Dogg as an elusive target.
