1047 Games, the studio behind the popular free-to-play shooter Splitgate, has experienced a third wave of layoffs in approximately one year, with the most recent reductions occurring less than a month after the launch of its new game, Empulse. This news comes as several developers have shared posts on LinkedIn indicating their departure from the company.
One associate art director stated that their last day at 1047 Games would be at the end of the week due to the "third wave of studio layoffs." The community specialist and QA director for the studio also shared that they were among those affected. The QA director described the situation as an "interesting ride, bumpy at times, narrowly avoiding derailment," referencing the ongoing challenges the studio has faced.
It remains unclear how many employees were impacted by this latest round of layoffs. Previous reductions included an unspecified number of staff initially, followed by a second wave that resulted in 45 job losses. The reasons for the current layoffs have not been officially disclosed. Empulse, described as a wall-running FPS with mechs reminiscent of Titanfall, has generally received positive reception, though its player count, particularly as an early access release, is a point of consideration.
This marks a challenging period for 1047 Games, with repeated staff reductions raising concerns about the studio's stability and future projects following the launch of Empulse.
