Riot Games has released a final gameplay trailer for 2XKO, its fighting game that is set to be sunsetted later this year. The game's last major update, scheduled for October 27, will introduce Samira as the 16th character, showcasing her moveset in a new trailer. This update also includes a surprise addition: Sett, a character long requested by fans.
Sett, depicted as a powerful brawler, appears to utilize shattering blows and potent grabs. His abilities in 2XKO seem to include a powered-up state that enhances his special moves, granting them new properties. The trailer also shows one of his super moves where he grabs both opposing characters simultaneously, slamming them together in a nod to his appearance in League of Legends.
The announcement has elicited a mixed reaction from the community, with excitement for the new characters tempered by sadness over the game's impending closure. The sentiment was captured in a top YouTube comment on the trailer, which described the situation as akin to a child receiving a visit from Spider-Man in the hospital.
2XKO, developed by Riot Games, launched earlier this year after a lengthy development period. Despite initial fanfare from the fighting game community, player retention was not sufficient to justify continued support beyond its first season of character releases. This led to layoffs within the development team and the eventual announcement of the game's end of service.
However, the game is not vanishing entirely. It will remain playable, and its microtransaction store has been replaced with an optional one-time purchase that unlocks all in-game cosmetics, with the potential exception of a specific promotional avatar outfit. Players looking forward to Sett's inclusion can experience him in the game later this month.
