Cath Bowie, a 78-year-old grandmother from Scotland, has officially been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest Fortnite streamer. Better known by her online handle Grumpygran1948, Bowie began playing Fortnite shortly after its launch in 2017.
Bowie was introduced to Fortnite by her teenage grandson, who initially challenged her by suggesting that no one would watch a grandmother play the game. This remark spurred Bowie to prove him wrong. "Saying that was like a red rag to a bull to me," she told BBC News. "I would show him that I could do it."
Now boasting over 24,000 followers across YouTube and Twitch, Bowie streams daily and plays with individuals from around the globe. Her achievement has also garnered recognition from Fortnite developer Epic Games, which has referred to her as a "goat."
Describing her experience with Fortnite's battle royale mode, particularly the Zero Build variant, Bowie stated, "You're trying to get the better of your opponents and eliminate them. But there's no blood on the scene - you just shoot somebody and they either crawl about until they die or they're just obliterated with the one shot. So there isn't any mess — nothing like that."
