Retro game specialists QUByte Interactive are set to release two obscure 1990s arcade titles from Spanish developer Gaelco on Steam this year: Thunder Hoop and its sequel, TH Strikes Back. The collection is scheduled to launch on October 8.
Thunder Hoop, originally released in 1992, is a platformer where the titular hero, a genetically engineered character described as Spanish Goku, battles mutants unleashed by the villainous Dr Genbreak. Players navigate a cityscape, including urban and underwater environments, facing cartoonish monsters. The 1994 follow-up, TH Strikes Back, features an older, adult Thunder Hoop engaging in more run-and-gun action against characters in latex attire. This sequel also incorporates a Super Saiyan-inspired transformation and a Gradius-style space shooter segment.
Both games will include modern conveniences such as save states and a rewind function, along with customizable screen filters to emulate a CRT aesthetic. TH Strikes Back will feature local co-op multiplayer, while the original Thunder Hoop's multiplayer mode supports alternating turns.
Gaelco, known for its arcade games and electronic dartboards, had limited success outside of Spain, with World Rally being one of its more recognized titles.
