Shochiku Games has announced "A Game About Digging a Hole Together," a sequel to the 2025 indie hit "A Game About Digging a Hole." The original game, which saw players digging holes in search of virtual treasure, was a commercial success, selling over a million copies and reaching Game Pass. The sequel shifts the setting to a beach environment and introduces a highly requested feature: four-player cooperative multiplayer.
New Features and Gameplay
The trailer reveals that players will be able to dig holes together on the beach, contending with environmental hazards like the sun, which can be mitigated by using water balloons. These items, along with other tools and upgrades for equipment such as backpacks, jetpacks, and shovels, can be acquired from shop vendors. This marks a departure from the original game's interaction system, which involved a computer for purchases.
"A Game About Digging a Hole Together" appears to maintain the straightforward gameplay loop of its predecessor, while adding new content and mechanics. The developers have responded to fan requests for multiplayer, aiming to enhance the core digging experience with social gameplay. The original "A Game About Digging a Hole" was released on PC in February 2025, with a console release following later that year.
