Steve Haines shares the story of Ovidlords, his first MMO character, a Night Elf Druid in World of Warcraft, created around 2006. The decision to play a Druid was inspired by the class in Diablo 2, and Haines was thrilled to find a similar shape-shifting class available in WoW.
Ovidlords became a Druid tank at a time when this role was largely unpopular and considered unviable by many players. Despite the skepticism, Haines managed to successfully tank Gruul in The Burning Crusade expansion. This Druid also achieved a server-first Ashes of Al'ar kill with his raid group, defeating Kael'thas Sunstrider. Although the account has since been deleted, Haines retains fond memories of his "bear-y first" MMO character. The experience highlights a personal journey through early MMO challenges and achievements.
