A Zelda: Ocarina of Time Romhack Features a Bearded, Hermit Link

A new romhack for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, titled Indigo, presents a full game replacement with a story set 15 years after the events of Majora's Mask. The project features new items, enemies, bosses, maps, and a story where an older, hermit-like Link is called back into action. This reimagining of the classic N64 title is playable on PC through static recompilation, a process that translates console code into C code for other platforms.

Indigo's premise follows Link after he has seemingly retired from adventuring in Termina. A fairy named Tael approaches him, seeking help to find his missing sister, Tatl. This quest leads Link into the mountainous region of Valana and involves the exploration of a long-dormant Deku Tree. The romhack includes a notable visual change for its protagonist: Link sports a beard, a departure from his original appearance.

The developers have indicated that Indigo is an ongoing project and have requested patience regarding its completion. In the interim, players interested in similar experiences can explore other PC games with Zelda-like qualities. The romhack has released a couple of public demos for players to experience.
