A new surreal platformer titled Abelina is in development, featuring contributions from a former animator for League of Legends and the composer for Zach Cregger's Resident Evil. The game presents a unique visual style reminiscent of Soviet stop-motion films and is set in a natural, otherworldly afterlife.
Players step into the role of Vasily, who has died and found himself in Abelina. Here, he lives alongside a few other individuals, tending to gardens, carving masks, and attempting to find peace. The narrative encourages players to "not to think about what this place might really be." The gameplay involves navigating this strange environment through platforming challenges, including flying and precise jumps. The game may also feature branching paths and open vistas, with players guided by a "mysterious rabbit-cat."
The development team includes Gabe Askew, who has experience with CG cinematics for titles like Valorant and League of Legends, as well as contributions to Love, Death + Robots. The soundtrack is being composed by Ryan Holladay, known for his work on Weapons and the recent Resident Evil film. Abelina is slated for release in 2027 and is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
