Activision Believes GTA 6 Will Boost All Game Sales, Including Modern Warfare 4

Activision's Chief Marketing Officer, Tyle Bahl, has expressed optimism that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 will not only be a colossal success but also positively impact the broader gaming market, including Activision's own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Bahl believes that GTA 6's release will drive more players to engage with gaming platforms, a phenomenon he likens to a rising tide that lifts all boats.

"More people coming in to the dashboards, more people taking the dust off their Xbox or PlayStation and playing again, is going to be more eyeballs for us overall," Bahl stated in an interview with The Game Business. He contrasted this with Nintendo's upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2, which is also slated for a November 5 release. Bahl sees both GTA 6 and Modern Warfare 4 as the year's biggest draws, capable of attracting a wider audience.

This perspective is shared by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, who indicated that major releases like GTA 6 generally benefit the entire industry. Ubisoft itself is planning to launch new content for its popular title Rainbow Six Siege around the same time GTA 6 debuts.

Bahl also highlighted that a key differentiator for Call of Duty is the social aspect of "spending time with friends," a feature he anticipates will remain a strong draw for Modern Warfare 4, even with GTA 6 launching just weeks later. He emphasized that research indicates this social element is more appealing to players than even the core gameplay mechanics.

"If more people are talking about games, if there’s more press around it, that’s going to be good for everybody, not just us," Bahl added, underscoring the belief that industry-wide attention is beneficial.

Modern Warfare 4 is set to release its campaign on October 23, with preorders unlocking early access to the campaign on October 16. The full game, encompassing campaign, DMZ, and multiplayer modes, will be available to all players on October 23. Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch 27 days later, on November 19, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
