Actor Pitches L.A. Noire Spinoff Exploring Different Eras

British actor Rahul Kohli, known for his roles in Saros and Midnight Mass, has outlined an exciting potential direction for the L.A. Noire franchise. In an interview with BAFTA Games, Kohli suggested a spinoff that would transport players to different time periods, taking on the role of a police officer to solve distinct crimes.

One proposed setting would place players in Victorian England, tasked with hunting down the notorious Jack the Ripper. Another potential scenario could see players transported to 1980s California to pursue the Night Stalker. "We could jump around and be a cop in different times. I would be down for that," Kohli stated, expressing his admiration for the original game. "I loved it. I adored L.A. Noire."

Kohli highlighted his appreciation for developer Team Bondi's groundbreaking facial-capture technology, which was instrumental in creating lifelike character expressions in the 2011 title. He noted the granular detail, such as subtle eyebrow movements, that contributed to the game's immersive experience in reading characters' emotions. He specifically expressed a desire for a new L.A. Noire installment to utilize the same technology and engine. "I want that. I don't want an improvement to it. That was part of the charm," he said.

L.A. Noire, released in 2011, never received a direct sequel, and its developer, Team Bondi, subsequently disbanded. A virtual reality version, L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files, was launched in 2017.

Recent comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick suggest that the publisher is considering future projects across all its franchises, including L.A. Noire. This follows a 2012 statement from Rockstar, where a sequel was described as a "possibility," with the developer citing bandwidth and timing as factors in their release schedule. Adding to the speculation, a recent rumor has emerged suggesting that a new L.A. Noire game is currently in development, with a reported focus on clue collection to apprehend the Zodiac Killer.
