Speculation is mounting among DC fans that Adria Arjona, recently cast in James Gunn's upcoming film "Man of Tomorrow," could be stepping into the role of Wonder Woman. While Arjona was initially reported to be playing the relatively obscure character Maxima, a recent video detailing her rigorous training regimen has intensified rumors that she is, in fact, DC's next live-action Amazon.
In a video published by Women's Health, Arjona described her demanding boxing and weightlifting routine, which she believes is preparing her for a significant superhero role. "I'm enjoying the transformation, but it's hard work," Arjona stated in the video. "I've never felt stronger, but it's hard. The excitement of playing the woman I'm playing gives me everything I need to wake up. Physically, it's exhausting, but it's all for the greater good."
The secrecy surrounding her specific character, coupled with her evident enthusiasm, has led some fans to conclude that Arjona is portraying Wonder Woman rather than Maxima. This interpretation stems from the belief that such excitement might not be directed towards a lesser-known character like Maxima, whose identity has prompted numerous clarifying searches online.
Should Arjona indeed be cast as Wonder Woman in "Man of Tomorrow," her situation could mirror that of Sadie Sink, who navigated a year of intense speculation regarding her mystery role as Jean Grey in "Spider-Man: Brand New Day." The release of "Man of Tomorrow" is scheduled for July 9, 2027, leaving ample time for further discussion and conjecture.
DC Studios, under the direction of James Gunn, is reportedly also developing a standalone Wonder Woman film, with Ana Nogueira attached to write the script. If "Man of Tomorrow" introduces the DC Universe's new Wonder Woman, Arjona would succeed Gal Gadot in the role. Previous live-action portrayals of Wonder Woman include Cathy Lee Crosby in a 1974 made-for-TV movie and Lynda Carter in the beloved 1975 television series.
"Man of Tomorrow" will feature David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, with Rachel Brosnahan returning as Lois Lane and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen. Other confirmed cast members include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl. New additions to the cast include Aaron Pierre as John Stewart/Green Lantern, alongside Matthew Lillard, Andre Royo, and Sinqua Walls in currently unspecified roles.
