Eremite Games, the independent studio behind the 2023 roguelike city builder Against the Storm, has announced a new project: a survival game set within the same universe. The announcement was made via Steam, with the studio stating, "There’s something we’ve been dying to tell you." This new title is described as "slowly taking shape as a survival game set in the Against the Storm universe."

A short in-engine clip was released as part of a developer diary, showcasing a robed figure carrying a rifle walking through a rain-soaked environment. The figure stops outside a dwelling reminiscent of those found in Against the Storm. A second figure appears shortly after, hinting at the possibility of cooperative gameplay. The studio cautioned that the project is in its earliest stages and "nearly everything you see is subject (and likely) to change."

Eremite Games, a small team of six, acknowledged the early reveal, stating, "There’s a chance we’re showing this way too early." They expressed a preference for openness despite the potential for significant evolution of the project. No further details regarding the game's title, release date, or specific mechanics have been provided.

Against the Storm, released in December 2022, was lauded for its unique approach to the city-building genre. Unlike traditional city builders, players must rebuild their settlements annually following a destructive cycle of magical storms. Progression comes from carrying over experience and upgrades between runs. PC Gamer named it their favorite city builder of 2023, with reviewer Leana Hafer calling it "one of the most clever, engaging, and endearing strategy games I've played in years."

Regarding the possibility of a direct sequel, the studio stated, "The idea of a sequel is something we think about often," but their current focus is on experimenting with the survival genre and expanding the lore of the Against the Storm universe.
