Astrocade, a free online platform centered around AI-generated games and experiences, has surpassed 10 million monthly users. The platform allows anyone to create interactive content using AI tools, which can then be played by other users, operating on a model similar to Roblox.
In a recent interview, Astrocade CEO Amir Sadeghian reported that the platform has doubled its monthly user base from approximately five million to 10 million in the past four months. Sadeghian highlighted the AI creation tools as the core of Astrocade's existence, enabling broad user participation. He credits the platform's ability to train and improve its AI models with extensive data, which allows for the generation of content tailored to audience enjoyment. The integrated approach, encompassing creation, distribution, and recommendation, is considered a significant advantage for Astrocade.
The company is preparing to release an iOS application and is actively marketing in the United States, where the platform has already gained considerable traction despite a lack of targeted promotional efforts.
Many of Astrocade's most popular creations appear to be clones of existing games, including titles reminiscent of Minecraft and popular Roblox games, alongside numerous character-based and AI-generated artwork pieces. These games, built with Astrocade's AI tools, often feature derivative content. Despite this, many have garnered hundreds of thousands or even millions of plays. The user experience is designed to be vertical, akin to social media feeds, with an algorithmically driven infinite scroll.
Sadeghian refers to the platform's offerings as "playables" that users can browse similarly to social media content. While the stated intention is to include educational materials, AI companions, and interactive stories, the CEO acknowledged that the platform's future content will largely be dictated by what creators produce with the AI tools. Given that creators are incentivized with payments for popular content, it is anticipated that derivative game concepts will remain prevalent over potentially more educational or unique interactive experiences.
Sadeghian also noted the increasing sophistication of the AI technology, stating that it is becoming difficult to discern AI-generated content. He observed that AI is now capable of tasks like writing code at a level comparable to many engineers, and the quality of 3D assets is approaching a point where they are hard to distinguish from human-made creations.
