Aion 2 is set to launch globally in the coming days, and early access data suggests a significant player response. The MMORPG has climbed Steam's charts, securing the number one spot on the Top Sellers list and ranking among the most played games.
While Aion 2 is fundamentally a free-to-play title, access to its early stages has been gated by founders' packs. The most affordable of these packs is priced at £18.49 and includes cosmetic items and in-game consumables. Through the sale of these packs, Aion 2 has reportedly generated more revenue than recent major releases such as EA FC 27, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, and Gears of War: E-Day.
Regarding player engagement, Aion 2 currently sits at ninth place on Steam's Most Played chart. This places it above titles like Delta Force and Delta Lock, though it has yet to surpass established games such as PUBG, Apex Legends, and Wardogs. The game's player count is expected to increase further once it transitions to a free-to-play model and opens to all players, not just founders.
The game offers a blend of traditional MMORPG elements with some unique features. Combat is described as existing between a standard tab-target system and a more action-focused approach seen in games like Black Desert Online. Players can engage in activities such as flying, collecting pets by defeating enemies in the open world, and extensive character progression. The game also features over 1,100 achievements and a mix of player-versus-player (PvP) and player-versus-environment (PvE) content.
This upcoming global launch follows Aion 2's release in Korea and Taiwan approximately one year ago. The original Aion, released in 2009, was notably successful in the MMO landscape, and this sequel aims to build upon that legacy.
