Alan Ritchson to Star in Helldivers Movie, Replacing Jason Momoa

Alan Ritchson, known for his role as Jack Reacher, is in negotiations to star in Sony's upcoming Helldivers movie, according to a report from Deadline. Ritchson would step into the lead role previously held by Jason Momoa, who exited the project earlier this year. Justin Lin, who has directed installments in the Fast & Furious franchise and Star Trek Beyond, is attached to direct the film.

The Helldivers movie is currently slated for a theatrical release on November 10, 2027. Ritchson is expected to portray one of the titular Helldivers, with additional casting details yet to be revealed. Notably, Shams Jorjani, CEO of Helldivers developer Arrowhead, has expressed a desire for the film to feature the on-screen demise of celebrities.

Beyond his potential involvement in the Helldivers adaptation, Ritchson has publically stated his enthusiasm for Activision's Call of Duty franchise and his openness to appearing in its cinematic universe. While Momoa will not be participating in the Helldivers movie, he is still set to appear as Blanka in the Street Fighter movie, scheduled for release in October, and will reprise his role in the A Minecraft Movie sequel in 2027.

Helldivers 2, released in 2024, achieved significant commercial success, reportedly selling over 20 million copies. Arrowhead Studios has indicated that the developer will not hold final creative authority over the film's direction.
