Remedy Entertainment has announced that its critically acclaimed title, Alan Wake 2, has now sold over 3 million copies. The developer-publisher shared this updated sales figure in its half-year financial report for January through June, revealing the milestone was achieved during the second quarter of the year.

The previous sales update for Alan Wake 2 came in February of last year, at which point the game had sold more than 2 million copies and had begun to turn a profit. Prior to that, Remedy had stated that the game had nearly recouped its development and marketing budget.

Despite being recognized as Remedy's fastest-selling game, Alan Wake 2 experienced a slow launch, with sales taking considerable time to recoup development costs and achieve profitability. The title, which was funded by Epic Games, remains an exclusive on the Epic Games Store for PC, a decision that some observers believe has limited its sales potential.

While the sales figures for Alan Wake 2 are positive, Remedy's financial report indicates a general decline in revenue, profit, and cash flow for the period. The company attributed this expected decrease to significant spending on the development and marketing of Control Resonant, alongside ongoing investment in other projects.

Remedy is currently working on three distinct projects. Control Resonant is nearing completion and is slated for release on September 24th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The company also noted that anticipation for Control Resonant has driven increased sales of the original Control game during the second quarter, surpassing its previous record for the same period.

The Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes are in full production, and a third, currently unannounced project is in the "production readiness" stage. The new CEO of Remedy, who assumed the role in February, has expressed that both Alan Wake and Control "should have sold more" and that the studio has yet to realize its full potential with its released products.
