Remedy Entertainment's narrative-driven horror title, Alan Wake 2, has now achieved over 3 million in lifetime sales, according to the company's recent financial report. This figure represents a significant recovery after a reportedly modest launch that saw the game sell 1 million copies against a substantial development and marketing budget of approximately €70 million.
The latest sales update indicates that by February 2025, Alan Wake 2 had surpassed 2 million sales, at which point it began to generate profit. The continued growth is attributed in part to positive word-of-mouth, though its status as an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC may have influenced its initial sales trajectory.
In other company news, Remedy's earlier title, Control, has reached a total of 5 million sales. The studio is also looking ahead to the launch of Control Resonant on September 24, 2026, which has garnered over 1.5 million wishlists across all platforms and is considered pivotal for Remedy's future.
Remedy has navigated a period of financial adjustments, including a "profit warning" following the underperformance of its live-service game FBC: Firebreak. The company reported a 23.1% decrease in revenue over the last six months. Jean-Charles Gaudechon assumed the role of CEO on March 1, 2026, a move that raised some concerns among observers due to his background at EA and a sports betting company, particularly following his comments that both Alan Wake and Control "should have sold more." Despite these challenges, Remedy has avoided major layoffs since 2020, and the success of Control Resonant is viewed as crucial for the studio's continued creative output.
