Am I Nima, a Disturbing Visual Novel About Identity, Arrives October 8

The unsettling visual novel Am I Nima, which centers on a young woman trying to prove her identity to her mother, has received an October 8 release date. The game was recently showcased during the Story Rich Showcase.

In Am I Nima, players assume the role of the titular character, who has been confined to a basement by her mother. The core gameplay involves Nima combining words within her mind to respond to her mother's questions and challenges. These conversations, along with exploration of Nima's surroundings, unlock new words that can then be fused to create more complex terms.

For instance, if Nima encounters a shark plushie, and has previously acquired the words "bed" and "dad," she can combine them with "shark" to generate "aquarium" and "happy." This word-fusion mechanic is integral to the dialogue system, offering a unique approach to narrative progression within the visual novel genre. The game aims to weave this system into its sensitive narrative, exploring themes of abuse and identity.

The player's ultimate goal is to uncover the reasons behind Nima's imprisonment and any hidden truths she may possess, suggesting a potentially challenging emotional experience. A demo for Am I Nima is currently available on Steam, where the game can also be wishlisted.
