Amazon has seemingly revealed the cover art for the upcoming 4K UHD Steelbook and Collector's Edition of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, only to remove the artwork from its listings hours later. The special edition physical releases went up for preorder at retailers including Amazon and Walmart approximately one week ago, with Amazon updating its listings over the weekend to feature the newly revealed artwork.
The Collector's Edition, priced at $150.99, features a design that recreates the iconic Amazing Fantasy #15 cover, which was itself reimagined in the opening scene of the film. The 4K UHD Steelbook artwork depicts Spider-Man in battle with the crime syndicate "The Hand".
While the Steelbook art has garnered significant praise online, the Collector's Edition design has met with a less enthusiastic reception from some fans. Comments on the r/Steelbooks subreddit indicated a preference for the Steelbook option, with some users expressing dissatisfaction with the higher-priced Collector's Edition.
Walmart's product page for the Collector's Edition details premium steelbook packaging with a magnetic lenticular cover, an original Spider-Man comic book, and additional exclusive collectibles. However, specific information about the contents of the pricey preorder was not further detailed.
Both Amazon and Walmart listings have since reverted to their previous artwork, which utilizes the global poster for Spider-Man: Brand New Day instead of the apparently leaked cover designs. Standard 4K UHD preorders for the film, excluding the Steelbook, are available on Amazon for $32.49, down from $49.99. The Steelbook Edition remains available for preorder at $44.99, while the Collector's Edition is currently out of stock at both retailers.
A release date for the DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K UHD edition of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has not yet been confirmed. The film has achieved a domestic gross of $655 million and an international gross of $1.01 billion, totaling approximately $1.67 billion worldwide. Projections suggest that $2 billion is a likely milestone for the film, which could place it above its predecessor, Spider-Man: No Way Home, in lifetime gross.
IGN's review of Spider-Man: Brand New Day awarded it a 7/10, with critic Tom Jorgensen noting that the film "effectively refocuses on the most reliable pillars of the webslinger: battling inner turmoil, swinging around NYC saving the day, and looking cool while doing so."
