Amazon Gaming general manager Jeff Gattis has clarified comments previously made regarding the future of the James Bond video game series, particularly concerning developer IO Interactive. Following the launch of "007 First Light," Gattis had suggested that sequels might be developed by MGM and Amazon Game Studios, a statement that caused confusion given the positive reception of IO Interactive's work on the franchise.

In a recent discussion with GI.biz, Gattis stated that no decisions have been made about who will publish or develop the next Bond sequel. He acknowledged the success of the current game and indicated that a sequel is likely. "Given the success of this one, I think you probably want IOI developing it," Gattis remarked, suggesting that bringing the development in-house at Amazon would be an ill-advised move. He also noted that while Amazon technically owns the rights to the game, the company intends to "do what's right by the game." This implies Amazon will likely be involved in publishing future installments in the series.

When asked about the possibility of Amazon acquiring IO Interactive, Gattis stated that "anything's possible" but confirmed that no such conversations are currently underway. IO Interactive has a history of challenges as a subsidiary of Square Enix, making its potential openness to a new owner uncertain. However, the financial resources of Amazon could present a compelling proposition.
