Amazon MGM Acquires Streaming Rights for Elden Ring Movie Amidst Secrecy Campaign

Amazon MGM has secured the international pay-1 streaming rights for A24's upcoming live-action adaptation of Elden Ring, in a deal reportedly worth tens of millions of dollars. The acquisition is part of a broader effort by distributor A24 to market director Alex Garland's film, which has been shrouded in unusual levels of secrecy.

Sources indicate that A24 is employing strict measures to prevent spoilers, a strategy described as an "industry first." Decision-makers interested in acquiring the film are reportedly flown to view Garland's script under the direct supervision of A24 employees, rather than being sent copies. While initially reported at 160 pages, the script is now said to be 180 pages long, potentially indicating a film runtime approaching three hours, significantly longer than Garland's previous directorial work.

The film is reportedly set to star Kit Connor, known for his roles in "Heartstopper" and "Warfare," who is speculated to portray a Tarnished warrior navigating the Lands Between and battling formidable creatures. The adaptation is A24's most expensive film to date, with a reported budget of $200 million, a sum the new streaming deal with Amazon MGM will help to offset.

Further details and potential footage may be presented at the American Film Market, an industry event taking place from November 10-15 in Los Angeles, where independent film and premium content are typically showcased for buyers and distributors. However, public access to any material is unlikely given the film's emphasis on maintaining secrecy.
