Following the cancellation of the Nic Cage-led Spider-Noir series, Amazon MGM is reportedly moving forward with a new Spider-Man project based on the controversial "Clone Saga" storyline. Deadline reported that the studio is close to ordering a series that will feature the clone characters Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker as protagonists.
The "Clone Saga" storyline, which originated in the 1990s, introduced Ben Reilly, a clone of Peter Parker. The story arc controversially suggested Ben was the original and Peter the clone, a retcon Marvel later reversed. Kaine Parker, another flawed clone, also played a significant role.
Details regarding the exact plot of the upcoming series remain unclear, with conflicting reports suggesting it may focus on Ben and Kaine grappling with their identities or feature altered origins. It is also possible that Peter Parker, the original Spider-Man, may not appear due to existing rights agreements, similar to how the Spider-Noir series had to rename its protagonist.
Kelvin Yu, the creator of American Born Chinese, is attached to write the series. Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller, known for their work on the animated Spider-Verse films, are expected to serve as executive producers alongside Yu. The third film in that series, Beyond the Spider-Verse, is slated for release in June 2027.
