The horror title Amnesia: The Bunker, known for its oppressive atmosphere and relentless monster, has been dramatically re-envisioned by a modder into something akin to Mirror's Edge. Created by modder TiMan for Frictional Games' 2026 modding jam, which carried the theme 'What is reality?', the mod, titled 'Bunker's Edge', shifts the game's setting and gameplay focus.

Instead of navigating the dark, war-torn trenches of France and its subterranean bunker, the protagonist Henri is transported to a bright, Mirror's Edge-style cityscape. This change in environment is a significant visual departure, particularly given that Amnesia: The Bunker's HPL engine is designed for darkness and shadow. The mod impressively showcases the engine's ability to render a colorful and open environment.

Beyond the visual transformation, 'Bunker's Edge' meticulously integrates the core free-running mechanics of Mirror's Edge. Players can engage in mantling, sliding, wall-running, pipe-climbing, and utilize a runner's vision. The challenging 180-degree wall-jump, a signature move in the original Mirror's Edge, is also present, albeit with some reported awkwardness in execution by players.

Despite the shift to a more open and vibrant setting, the mod retains elements of its horror origins. The monster from Amnesia: The Bunker pursues Henri across the rooftops, maintaining a sense of dread and urgency even in the new environment.

While 'Bunker's Edge' is a notable feat of modding, it does have limitations. The parkour mechanics, while implemented, are not as polished as those in the original Mirror's Edge, with occasional issues like players clipping through walls. The mod is also very brief, with a completion time of approximately 15 minutes, and features a peculiar ending that deviates from expectations set by either Amnesia: The Bunker or Mirror's Edge.

Nevertheless, 'Bunker's Edge' offers a unique and entertaining experience for fans of both games. Frictional Games, the developer behind Amnesia: The Bunker, is also working on its next title, Ontos, a sci-fi adventure expected in 2027 that shares more in common with their earlier game Soma than with The Bunker.
