To commemorate the 45th anniversary of John Landis's 1981 horror film, An American Werewolf in London, Universal has announced a special Steelbook Edition. This release will feature the film in 4K UHD, on Blu-ray, and as a digital copy, alongside over three hours of bonus material.
The 45th Anniversary Limited Edition Steelbook is now available for preorder on Amazon with a price tag of $34.99. The release date is set for October 6, 2026.
Beyond An American Werewolf in London, Universal is also releasing other special editions. The film Van Helsing has also gone up for preorder, as has the "80's Horror 5-Film Steelbook Library Case" for $144.99, which includes A Nightmare on Elm Street, Poltergeist, The Lost Boys, The Shining, and Little Shop of Horrors. These are also scheduled for release on October 6.
The article notes the increasing importance of building a physical media collection, especially for favorite films, in the current digital landscape where content rights can shift. It also points out that modern consoles like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are capable of playing 4K Blu-ray discs, providing a means to experience these releases in high quality.
