Andrzej Sapkowski, the celebrated author behind The Witcher saga, has confirmed that a new book in the series is in development, with an anticipated completion of the writing process by the end of 2027. This news comes as fans eagerly await CD Projekt Red's projects related to the franchise, including a remaster of The Witcher 3, the Songs of the Past expansion, and the upcoming The Witcher 4, slated for a 2028 release.
During a recent convention appearance in Poland, Sapkowski revealed his ongoing work on the next Witcher installment. According to Witcher news outlet Redanian Intelligence, the author stated his intention to continue focusing on Geralt, the iconic monster hunter, and does not plan to write stories about other characters like Yennefer. The most recent entry in the book series was The Witcher: Crossroads of Ravens in 2025, a prequel chronicling young Geralt's early career as a Witcher. This leaves significant unexplored periods in Geralt's life, given his middle-aged status during the original short story collections and novels.
Sapkowski expressed in an interview with IGN that there is ample room to explore Geralt's formative years through further prequels. He also noted the unique challenge of crafting short stories, stating that "It is not an easy thing to create a good short story. This is much more difficult than writing a novel." Whether the new book will feature a younger or more experienced Geralt remains to be seen.
If Sapkowski meets his target completion date by the end of 2027, Polish readers could see the new book released by late 2027 or early 2028. International audiences might expect a translated version approximately a year later, following the release schedule of Crossroads of Ravens.
