Electronic Arts has announced that the popular battle royale shooter Apex Legends will host its next major crossover event with Street Fighter 6. The event, titled Apex Legends vs Street Fighter 6, is set to begin on September 22 and will run through October 13.
This collaboration introduces a new game mode called Wildcard, which shifts the focus from gunplay to close-quarters combat. Players will select from four iconic Street Fighter characters and engage in melee battles. A key mechanic involves collecting coins to fill a Fighter Gauge, which can then be used to enter a powerful Fighter Form, granting enhanced abilities. The mode will be playable on a modified version of the Olympus map, featuring numerous references to the Street Fighter franchise. The event culminates in a final round known as Showdown, where remaining players receive an infinite Fight Gauge for an explosive conclusion.
The four playable Street Fighter characters in the Wildcard mode are:
- Ryu: Characterized by fast movement and projectile attacks, culminating in a powerful Shoryuken.
- Chun-Li: Features wall-running capabilities and projectile attacks, with a charged Kikosho blast for area control.
- Akuma: Offers long-range fireball attacks and a devastating Shun Goku Satsu finishing move.
- Dhalsim: Utilizes low-gravity floating, teleportation, and ranged fire attacks.
In addition to the new game mode, the crossover brings eight new Iconic rarity skins that reimagine Apex Legends characters with a Street Fighter aesthetic. These include Sparrow as Ryu, Alter as Chun-Li, Bangalore as Elena, Mirage as Luke, Gibraltar as Akuma, Wattson as Cammy, Caustic as Blanka, and Pathfinder as Dhalsim. Each skin is priced at 2,150 Apex Coins.
The event also features eight weapon skins, two skydive emotes, holosprays, stickers, badges, trackers, and frames. Players can earn in-game currency called Zenny through matches, which can be used to unlock various cosmetic items, including an Epic Lifeline skin styled after Street Fighter's Li-Fen.
