Apple TV+ has officially announced that its critically acclaimed spy thriller, Slow Horses, will return for an eighth season, with production slated to begin shortly. This news comes as the series maintains its consistent release schedule, a rarity in the current streaming landscape where long gaps between seasons are common. Slow Horses has delivered at least one batch of new episodes annually since its debut in 2022.

The upcoming eighth season will draw from Mick Herron's ninth and most recent novel, Clown Town. The announcement follows a recent Emmy win for Saul Metzstein in the Best Director for a Drama Series category for season 5, episode 6, titled “Scars.” Season 6 is scheduled to premiere on September 16, 2026, and will conclude its run on October 21, 2026. Season 7, based on Herron’s novel Bad Actors, was previously confirmed.

According to Apple TV+'s synopsis, season 8 will feature a significant confrontation between Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner. The summary states, “When a botched attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive, it is up to Lamb to unravel one of MI5’s darkest secrets and put an end to it once and for all."

About Slow Horses

Slow Horses is described by Apple TV+ as a darkly humorous espionage drama that centers on a team of dysfunctional British intelligence agents relegated to MI5's dumping ground, known as Slough House. Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of these agents, who find themselves at Slough House after making career-ending mistakes. The series chronicles their often-bumbling navigation of the espionage world.

Oldman's portrayal of Lamb has garnered significant praise, particularly noted for his visceral on-screen eating habits. Each of the show's five seasons has achieved a Rotten Tomatoes score above 95%, and the last three seasons have received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama Series. The streamer has also seen recent success with other series, including Widow’s Bay, which set a record for Emmy wins by a comedy series, and the upcoming final season of Silo.
