Arc Raiders and The Finals to Receive Movie and TV Adaptations

Chernin Entertainment has announced that it has acquired the rights to develop movie and TV series adaptations for Embark Studios' titles, Arc Raiders and The Finals. The production company, known for co-producing the Planet of the Apes franchise and Fear Street films, plans to create transmedia experiences based on the popular games.

Patrick Söderlund, founder and CEO of Embark Studios, stated that the studio's creative teams will collaborate closely with Chernin Entertainment. "Nexon’s agreement with Chernin Entertainment is the next big step in growing Arc Raiders and The Finals into deeply integrated transmedia experiences that reward the passion of our global player community," Söderlund said in a press release. He added that the creative teams at Embark will ensure the distinct qualities of both properties are carried into the new formats.

David Ready, president of film at Chernin Entertainment, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, calling the games "ambitious global IP with the potential to become major franchises across film and television." This move follows a September interview where Embark Studios Executive Producer Aleksander Grondal mentioned discussions about bringing Arc Raiders to other media forms, indicating these adaptation projects were in their early stages.

Arc Raiders, a free-to-play extraction shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity fights back against invading machines, was released on October 30, 2025. The game is scheduled to receive its Frozen Trail update on October 8, 2026, which will introduce a new map, additional enemies, and new weapon types. The game will be available for free for four days alongside the expansion.

The Finals, a virtual reality game show set in 2100, has attracted approximately 30 million players since its launch on December 7, 2023. The game is known for its destructible environments and fast-paced combat. Updates are planned to enhance its destruction system, making it more dynamic. A point of criticism for both games has been the use of AI-generated voice acting, a feature that audiences may hope to see omitted in the screen adaptations.
