Embark Studios' executive producer Aleksander Grøndal has admitted that the development team behind Arc Raiders "couldn't keep pace" with player demands for content. In an interview with GamesBeat, Grøndal explained that the studio was surprised by the initial player turnout and became unprepared for the rapid consumption of in-game tasks and progression systems. This led to player frustration as they completed available content quickly, revealing the limitations of the game's offerings.

Grøndal noted that while players expressed a preference for quality, the core appeal of a live service game lies in providing consistent activities. Embark's strategy of rapidly updating the game to meet these demands proved unsustainable for the team. "The issue with that was the team just couldn’t keep pace with the players," Grøndal stated. "The players grew frustrated, because some of the things we shipped were perhaps not as good or as meaningful as they were hoping. That was another awakening for us."

Compounding these content issues were ongoing concerns about cheating and stream sniping, which emerged in January following the game's initial release. Despite the team's efforts, these problems have remained contentious. Grøndal acknowledged that Embark, with its comparatively smaller development team for a live service title, cannot compete with larger studios on content quantity like competitors such as Call of Duty or Valorant.

Instead of aiming for sheer volume, Embark's goal has always been to deliver higher quality content with "Embark finesse." However, the studio recognized that players' engagement with live service games is often driven by the constant availability of things to do. The initial promise of a 10-year plan for Arc Raiders has yet to fully materialize, leaving players waiting for sustained content delivery.

To address these shortcomings, Embark is preparing a major update titled "Frozen Trails," scheduled for October. Grøndal indicated that this update aims to "answer a lot of those questions that have been posed to us from a mechanical and content perspective." The update will include a redesigned ranking system, additional "arcs," storage improvements, and a new map. While a better anti-cheat system would be beneficial, the studio's focus is on re-establishing a sustainable live service cadence with the upcoming update, in hopes of re-engaging the player base and demonstrating a commitment to the game's long-term future.
