Arc Raiders Free-to-Play Weekend to Coincide With Major 'Frozen Trail' Update

Embark Studios is offering a four-day free-to-play window for its cooperative shooter, Arc Raiders, beginning October 8 and concluding October 12. This event aligns with the launch of the game's most substantial content update to date, titled "Frozen Trail."

The free-to-play trial will be available on PC via Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms. During this period, players will have unrestricted access to the full game. The "Frozen Trail" update is set to introduce a new map, a fresh Battle Pass, a frigate patrol vessel, and an assortment of new enemies and challenges. Enhancements to gameplay include weapon modifications and the addition of a camera gadget, alongside new weapon skins.

This initiative by Embark Studios aims to attract new players and re-engage the existing community. While Arc Raiders has maintained a player base, concurrent player counts have seen a decline since its initial launch. The coinciding free-to-play weekend and major update are expected to significantly boost player numbers.

A PvE matchmaking beta test, offering a more relaxed player-versus-environment experience as requested by the community, is also slated to become available shortly after the "Frozen Trail" update goes live.

A potential concern surrounding the free-to-play period is the impact on the game's ongoing struggle with cheaters. Embark Studios has invested significant effort in combating cheating, but it remains a persistent challenge. The "Frozen Trail" update is not expected to feature new anti-cheat measures, placing reliance on the current systems to maintain fair play during the influx of new players.

Arc Raiders is currently available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
