Arc Raiders is pausing its expedition system until 2027 to implement substantial changes, developer Embark Studios has announced. This decision comes as the team works to refine the core experience of the cooperative shooter.
The expedition system, a key feature where players prepare for challenging missions using in-game knowledge and resources, has been a point of focus. While the current iteration offers a puzzle-like experience for those adept at resource management, Embark recognizes the need for significant improvements. A new character prestige system, originally planned to be introduced with the expedition updates, has also been postponed until 2027.
Despite the impending changes, one player shared their positive experience with completing every available expedition, noting the satisfaction derived from strategic preparation and resource optimization. The player particularly enjoyed the challenge of starting anew with minimal resources after each previous expedition.
Looking ahead, the game is set to receive the 'Frozen Trail' update next week, which will introduce new content including upgraded Arc guns, a new map, and player-customizable personal outposts. This update promises to bring a host of new features and gameplay elements prior to the broader expedition system overhaul. Embark Studios is also considering the implications of a potential mandatory character reset for the health of the game, acknowledging player attachment to accumulated in-game items.
