Arc Raiders Player Count Soars Following 2.0 Update and Free Trial

Arc Raiders has seen a significant surge in player activity on Steam following the release of its "Frozen Trail" update, which also brought the game to version 2.0. This substantial update, perceived by many as a relaunch for the extraction shooter, has propelled concurrent player counts to a new high.

On Steam, concurrent player numbers spiked to a peak of 185,443 shortly after the update's launch, according to SteamDB. This marks the highest figure the game has achieved since March, and it stands in stark contrast to its typical daily peaks, which generally remain below 40,000.

Frozen Trail Expansion Details

The "Frozen Trail" update introduces a range of enhancements to Arc Raiders. Key additions include Pendola Pass, the game's largest new map, and several new Arc enemy types. Players also benefit from new weapons, a personal base called The Outpost, and a complete overhaul of the skill tree system. The update further refines the weapon meta, aiming to better serve both player-versus-environment (PvE) and player-versus-player (PvP) audiences by revitalizing underutilized weapons and equipment.

Testing Dedicated PvE Mode

In conjunction with the "Frozen Trail" update, Embark Studios initiated a test for a dedicated PvE mode, running from October 13th to 20th. The studio has not yet confirmed whether this test will lead to the permanent implementation of a PvE-only option. A dedicated PvE mode has been a frequently requested feature among the game's community, suggesting its potential to sustain player engagement.

Potential for Deceptive Numbers

While the recent player count rebound is notable, it coincides with a free trial that began alongside the "Frozen Trail" update. This free trial means that a portion of the increased player numbers may consist of new players who may not ultimately purchase the game. The free trial concluded on the same day as the article's publication, making it crucial to monitor whether the PvE test and update can maintain the game's renewed player momentum.
