Concept art for a canceled Green Lanterns series, titled "Emerald Knights," has been shared by Marc Guggenheim, a co-creator of the CW’s Arrow series. The revealed artwork and details show a project that shares similarities with HBO's current "Lanterns" show, including a focus on the Manhunters as primary villains and a narrative split across two time periods.
Guggenheim shared three pieces of concept art on his Substack, detailing his initial vision for the series. One image depicts Green Lanterns defending themselves against alien attackers with constructs like bo staffs, swords, and shields, intended as a scene from the pilot episode's opening. Other pieces offer early character designs for Guy Gardner and an original character who Guggenheim clarified is not Jo Mullein, despite some fan speculation. The artwork also features likenesses of actors Finn Wittrock and Jenelle Monae for Gardner and the original character, respectively. Guggenheim also noted that Gardner's costume was planned for minor alterations to align with his Justice League International design.
While Guggenheim's "Emerald Knights" did not move forward, HBO's "Lanterns" series has been a critical and commercial success, already entering early development for a second season. The current series has received positive reviews from critics and fans.
