Mondo is set to release a new Street Fighter 2 poster designed by artist Gian Galang, focusing on the legendary rivalry between Ryu and Sagat. The nine-color screenprint captures a pivotal moment from the fighting game franchise, depicting the Shoryuken attack that famously scarred Sagat.
Galang, who cited Street Fighter 2 as his first video game and an influence on his artistic career, aimed to create an image worthy of the series' legacy. The composition is a multi-layered screenprint on high-quality paper. This artwork will be available for preorder starting October 16 at 9 AM PT, with a price point of $90.
The narrative between Ryu and Sagat has been a long-standing element in the Street Fighter universe. Their initial encounter in the original lore resulted in Sagat's distinctive chest scar from Ryu's Shoryuken, a pivotal event that led Sagat to join the Shadaloo organization. Later iterations, such as Street Fighter Alpha, further explored their complex relationship, including an instance where Ryu's darker powers manifested, causing Sagat's injury.
In related news, the developers of the Street Fighter series recently commented on the franchise's precarious state a decade ago. The new Street Fighter movie, directed by Kitao Sakurai, is also set to release, featuring a cast that includes Eric Andre in an unspecified role, alongside numerous Easter eggs and a version of Guile's theme music.
