Asa Germann has been cast as the iconic mutant Angel in Marvel's upcoming X-Men movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Germann is known for his role as Sam Riordan in the Amazon Prime Video series 'Gen V', a spin-off of 'The Boys'.
Germann reportedly auditioned for the role of Cyclops, which ultimately went to Kit Connor. However, Marvel Studios was impressed with his performance and offered him the part of Warren Worthington III, also known as Angel. This marks Germann's second foray into the superhero genre, following his turn in 'Gen V', where he portrayed a character with enhanced physical abilities.
The actor, who is 28 years old, joins a cast that features several young performers. Sadie Sink, 24, is set to play Jean Grey, Maya Boyd, 23, will portray Storm, and Inde Navarrette, 25, is confirmed as Rogue. Other notable cast members include Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier, with Adam Driver slated to play the villain Mister Sinister.
Angel, whose superpowers are avian-themed, first appeared in Marvel Comics' 'The X-Men' #1 in 1963. He was a founding member of the X-Men and a key figure in numerous storylines, including his transformation into Archangel with metallic wings under the influence of Apocalypse.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has indicated that the X-Men franchise will explore a vast array of untold stories from the comics. Feige stated at Disney's D23 fan convention that with nearly 90 years of comic book history, there are countless narratives yet to be adapted, suggesting a long-term commitment to the new cast and their potential sagas.
