Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has experienced the most successful launch of any Assassin's Creed title in the past 13 years, with initial player counts on Steam alone exceeding 100,000. This figure represents a strong opening week for the game, and it does not account for players engaging with it through other PC storefronts or on consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
While not all Assassin's Creed entries have been available on Steam at their initial release, Black Flag Resynced's performance provides a notable benchmark against recent series installments. Assassin's Creed Odyssey garnered a peak of 62,049 players during its launch week, and Assassin's Creed Shadows achieved 64,825 players upon its debut last year. Assassin's Creed Valhalla serves as an outlier, as it was not initially released on Steam. When Ubisoft eventually brought its titles back to the platform after a several-year hiatus, Valhalla saw a peak of 15,679 players on its PC launch day, two years after its console and initial PC release. It later surpassed this with 19,181 players in January 2026.
The launch week figures for Black Flag Resynced are particularly impressive. However, they are dwarfed by the performance of the similarly themed pirate game Windrose, which reached over 220,000 peak concurrent users on Steam during its launch week in April.
Despite the celebratory launch numbers, reports indicate that approximately 51 developers at Ubisoft Barcelona are facing layoffs. These cuts are part of broader workforce reductions initiated by Ubisoft in June. Black Flag Resynced is anticipated to be a significant seller for Ubisoft during a period marked by a leaner schedule of new releases from the company.
