Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, set to bring Edward Kenway back to players on July 9th, is already outpacing the PC sales performance of last year's Assassin's Creed Shadows. Pre-order figures on Steam indicate significant player anticipation for the remake of the 2013 seafaring adventure.
According to market analysis from Alinea, Resynced has secured over 300,000 pre-order units on Steam. This number represents approximately $14 million in gross revenue and is 5.39 times higher than the pre-release sales figures for Shadows on the same platform. Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea, noted that the remake's success on PC is a strong indicator of its potential.
Elliott further suggested that Black Flag Resynced is expected to perform even better on consoles, particularly PlayStation, due to the strong nostalgia associated with the original title from the PS4 era. The original Assassin's Creed Black Flag was considered a landmark release for that generation, and its enduring popularity is anticipated to drive strong console sales for the remake.
For comparison, Assassin's Creed Shadows has sold 5.7 million copies globally to date, with 1.3 million of those on Steam. This figure places it behind earlier entries in the series such as 2018's Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which had sold 10 million copies by March 2020. Assassin's Creed Valhalla was also a commercial success for Ubisoft, receiving extensive post-launch support.
The upcoming release of Black Flag Resynced coincides with reports that Ubisoft is developing a similar remake of the original 2007 Assassin's Creed. While Eurogamer awarded Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced three stars in its review, describing it as a "perfectly fine way of experiencing this tale," the strong pre-order performance on Steam suggests a significant player base is eager to return to this chapter of the franchise.
