Larian Studios' hit RPG Baldur's Gate 3 is expanding into comics with a new series from Dark Horse Comics. The first six issues will focus on Astarion Ancunín, the fan-favorite vampire spawn rogue, as he navigates the city of Waterdeep following his liberation from his master, Cazador Szarr. The story sees Astarion investigating a series of ritual murders, aiming to uncover the killer before he becomes their next target.
The creative team for the Baldur's Gate 3 comic includes writer Alyssa Wong, artist Vincenzo Carratù, inker Elisabetta D’Amico, colorist Valentina Taddeo, and letterer Buddy Beaudoin. The series will feature five variant covers by various artists, including Gerald Parel, Scott Fischer, Angela Wu, and Tyler Walpole.
Following the initial Astarion arc, Baldur's Gate 3 will continue with a 12-issue series centered on the tiefling barbarian Karlach. This subsequent story will follow her journey through the Nine Hells, with writing by Becky Cloona and art by Francesco Scimonelli.
In addition to the Baldur's Gate 3 series, Dark Horse is also developing a trilogy of graphic novels set in the classic Dungeons & Dragons world of Dark Sun. This post-apocalyptic setting, which Wizards of the Coast is returning to in 2027, will be explored through standalone stories. The first graphic novel will follow Tikat, a Thri-kreen gladiator, and his companion Wik as they attempt to escape the city of Tyr and uncover a mysterious psionic foe. The creative team for the Dark Sun trilogy includes writer Dan Abnett, artist Nil Vendrell, colorist Mattia Iacono, and letterer Buddy Beaudoin, with cover art by Jeff Stokely.
The first issue of the Baldur's Gate 3 comic is slated for release on February 24. A preview will be available in Dungeons & Dragons #2 on January 6. The first volume of Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Sun is scheduled for release in April 2027.
