Atari has announced a new collaboration with Activision, the Atari x Activision Collection, which will bring 39 classic Activision games back to physical Atari 2600 cartridges. This marks a significant reunion between the two companies after nearly 50 years.

The collection will be available in several formats. Twelve individual games, including titles such as Pitfall!, River Raid, Kaboom!, and H.E.R.O., will be released as "Standard Edition" cartridges in November for $35 each. These editions will feature full packaging and a printed, color manual reminiscent of the original releases. They are compatible with both the Atari 2600+ and Atari 7800+ consoles, as well as original Atari 2600 and 7800 hardware.

Further expanding the offering, four box sets will be released, encompassing all 39 games. The first box set is scheduled for release in late November, with the remaining three to follow throughout the first three quarters of 2027. These sets will be available for pre-order on atari.com at a price of $250. A complete collection of all 39 games, which will reportedly include an unannounced collectible item, will also be offered for pre-order at $1000.

Matt Burnett, Atari’s VP of hardware, stated that the collection aims to honor the legacy of independent creators who influenced the industry. "The Atari x Activision Collection brings that legacy to life through the games themselves, giving fans an opportunity to experience, collect and preserve the work of the developers who helped establish a new model for the video game industry," Burnett said.

This release of new physical versions of classic Activision titles comes as a notable event for collectors of physical media, especially in a market where some platforms are phasing out physical disc support.
