Atari is set to revive classic entries from the Toy Story video game franchise with two upcoming collections: Toy Story Retro Roundup and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition. Developed by Digital Eclipse, known for its work on collections like Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, these releases aim to make beloved licensed games accessible to a new generation.
Toy Story Retro Roundup will feature multiple versions of earlier games, including the 1995 Genesis, SNES, and Game Boy iterations of Toy Story. It will also include Toy Story 2 for the Game Boy Color, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue! and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command for the PlayStation, and Toy Story Racer. As a bonus, the collection will also incorporate A Bug's Life from 1998 for the PlayStation and Game Boy Color.
This collection will incorporate several quality-of-life enhancements for the classic titles. Players will find uprezzed visuals for the PlayStation games, though original resolutions will also be an option. Features such as save states, rewind functionality, invincibility and level unlock cheats, and a practice mode with guided playthroughs are included. Modernized control schemes and updated instructions are also part of the package, designed to make the games more approachable for contemporary players. Beyond gameplay additions, Retro Roundup will also provide archival materials, including new interviews, concept art, and ad scans.
Alongside the Retro Roundup, Atari is also remastering Toy Story 3. The Toy Story 3 Complete Edition will boast updated graphics, supporting 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. This edition will encompass all original game content, including Story and Toy Box modes, both offering cooperative play. A significant addition is the inclusion of previously platform-exclusive content, such as the ability to play as Zurg in Toy Box mode, which was initially only available in the PlayStation 3 release. Four additional Theme Packs for the Toy Box will also be part of this enhanced version.
Atari's initiative with these collections aims to preserve and provide access to important licensed games, allowing both long-time fans to revisit nostalgic titles and new players to experience them for the first time.
