Paramount and Gameplay Group International have announced a significant delay for the Xbox version of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, pushing its release back by six weeks to September 3. The announcement came just hours before the game was originally scheduled to launch on July 23 across all platforms.
The delay is attributed to "unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature," according to an official statement from the game's account on X. This abrupt postponement has left many Xbox players in disbelief, with some having taken time off work in anticipation of the game's release.
"Are you actually kidding me, why would you announce this the day of release if you knew you wouldn’t be able to release it on Xbox till two months later?" one user questioned on X, echoing the sentiments of many who felt the communication was inadequate. Another player, who identified as a long-time supporter, expressed disappointment, noting this is the second delay and stating, "We as Xbox players deserve some form of compensation." This user suggested an open beta with in-game currency or a DLC character as appropriate recompense.
Compounding issues, the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions will also launch without cross-play functionality and will be limited to English language support. The abrupt nature of the Xbox delay, coupled with the localization limitations on Nintendo platforms, has created a sense of chaos surrounding the launch. Furthermore, even players on Steam and PlayStation may experience less populated lobbies due to the cross-play restrictions on other platforms.
