Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is set to launch on July 23, promising to be the franchise's most significant video game release in years. Developed as a 1v1 fighter, the game features hand-drawn 2D animation reminiscent of the original animated series. It will include standard fighting game modes such as story, arcade, and online play, with rollback netcode and crossplay support across all platforms.
The game is designed with both experienced fighting game players and newcomers in mind. It aims for a high skill ceiling but will also feature a dedicated game mode to help teach fighting game mechanics to those unfamiliar with the genre, separate from its standard training mode. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will be available for $29.99, with a Deluxe Edition priced at $49.99 that includes a Year 1 Pass, a digital artbook, and a digital soundtrack.
The initial roster will consist of 12 characters, with the majority drawn from the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series. The Legend of Korra is represented by Korra and Zaheer. The confirmed launch roster includes Aang, Avatar State Aang, Azula, Katara, Kyoshi, Ozai, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Korra, Avatar State Korra, and Zaheer. An additional five characters are planned for release through the Year 1 Pass, with pre-ordering players given the ability to vote on future additions.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. This release follows a history of less successful Avatar tie-in games, including titles released in the late 2000s and early 2010s, and the poorly received 2023 action-adventure game Avatar: The Last Airbender - Quest for Balance.
