The upcoming Avengers: Endgame Encore will extend the original film's runtime by four minutes, bringing its total to 185 minutes. AMC Theatres confirmed the runtime, positioning the re-release as the longest Marvel movie to date.
This extended version, subtitled "Encore," is set to add a small amount of new material to the 2019 blockbuster. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo previously indicated that the added footage would be derived from scenes shot during the production of Avengers: Doomsday. Joe Russo stated that this re-release offers an opportunity to "create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way."
The film's re-release is also a strategic move to boost its box office performance. Avengers: Endgame briefly held the record for the highest-grossing film of all time before being surpassed by James Cameron's Avatar. With a current box office total of $2.79 billion, Endgame needs an additional $127 million to reclaim the top spot from Avatar's $2.92 billion.
Avengers: Endgame Encore is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 25, preceding the release of Avengers: Doomsday on December 18.
