Marvel is bringing Avengers: Endgame back to theaters with new footage, now officially titled 'Endgame Encore,' to connect it to the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. The rerelease is set to hit cinemas on September 25.

Listings on AMC Theatres reveal that Avengers: Endgame Encore will have a runtime of 185 minutes. This makes it the longest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, surpassing the original Endgame's 181-minute runtime. The additional content amounts to just four minutes of new footage. Whether this minimal addition warrants a return trip to the theater for the three-hour-plus runtime is a decision for fans.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have stated that the rerelease is critically important to enhance the story of Doomsday. "You don’t always get the chance to re-release because it costs money," Joe Russo explained, "so the fact that we can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame and these characters that we worked with for years that we love so much, and continue their story: It’s a really unique opportunity."

The specific content of the new footage has not been revealed, though it was shot during production on Doomsday and is intended to directly tie into the upcoming movie. Speculation suggests the footage might involve Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, whose MCU journey last concluded in Endgame. A potential post-credits scene or a "Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday" card has been suggested.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18.
