Avengers: Secret Wars Filming Rumors Spark Delay Concerns

Rumors surrounding the production of Marvel Studios' upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars have intensified following comments from star Anthony Mackie, suggesting a potential delay for the highly anticipated film. While Avengers: Doomsday is set for release on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is currently slated for December 17, 2027, speculation about production timelines has emerged.

Reports from MCU leakers indicated that principal photography for Secret Wars was initially pushed to January of next year. Now, Mackie, who reprises his role as Sam Wilson/Captain America, has stated that he will not finish filming his scenes for the movie until July 2027. Mackie is scheduled to star in a Broadway production of Macbeth, with rehearsals beginning in February and the play running until July of next year. "Once I finish on Broadway, I’ll go to finish up all the Avengers stuff for Secret Wars," Mackie told Deadline.

This timeline raises questions about the film's viability for its December 2027 release, as completing filming in July would leave a tight turnaround for post-production and marketing. For comparison, principal photography for Avengers: Doomsday wrapped in September 2025, over a year before its scheduled debut. The back-to-back production of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame also featured a more condensed filming schedule.

It remains possible that Mackie's scenes, like those of other actors in large ensemble films, could be filmed in isolation using green screen technology. However, neither Marvel Studios nor Disney has officially addressed the circulating rumors regarding filming delays for Avengers: Secret Wars. The studio's official release date for the film remains December 17, 2027.
